Webheads Meeting in Second Life - Sunday 26th November
It seems like there were lots of fruitful meetings at the Webheads hut in Edunation today - I received 4 messages from the automatic chat recorder, which you will find posted here. There are also some great photos of the meetings here.
I caught the tail end of the meeting I think, but was able to hold a very fruitful clothes swapping session with SusNy Foss, Pafiki Paravane, Yaodong Yost, Dom DaSilva, and Sue Aferdita.
Later, Wonderalica Alturas and Pedro Lustre showed up, and we tried out the free automatic translation tool 'Babbler'.
Then, Pedro, who in RL (Real Life) is a history teacher in Spain, asked whether I could show him the presentation facilities, so we teleported to the Edunation Seminar Room and I ran through the Teenage Language Learning Island Project I showed the week before. We were joined by Fire Centaur, an ESL teacher in Korea, just as I got started. I must admit, with a smaller group, it went smoother, and there were lots of interesting ideas as a result. For one, Fire Centaur seems to be highly motivated to start teaching in SL, and he was inspired by my presentation to start up a new SL group called 'ESL Go' to brainstorm ways of teaching and learning English.
I recommend that anyone who's interested in this, contact Fire Centaur and join the group - He set us all homework for next week - to prepare a lesson plan for next week, and we're going to meet again to present our ideas. I also recommended he give us a presentation about how he plans to use the new island that he is setting up with a colleague of his on the adult grid (with ESL teaching in mind) - he seemed to want to get in touch with other ESL teachers who might want to do the same and join the project. Next week, he said he will be giving anyone who wants to a session on how to set up a comic book for ESL learners, so IM him soon if you are interested.
Just as we were finishing off, Bee Kerouac turned up, followed by Johan Jaxa and Karsten Pace. Johan blogged about last week's presentation on his elgg blog. This led to a conversation about elgg, and how people are using it.
Then I had to leave, but the others were still going strong when I said my goodbyes...
Until the next time,
Baldric (Graham)
