Talk-radio podcasts, such as Absolutely Intercultural, which are not overtly pedagogical, can be much more than passive, extended listening practice. The workshop, run by one of the show’s co-producers, will present how several teachers have used the Absolutely Intercultural podcast and then throw open the discussion to discover the different levels of involvement possible with podcasts from listening to producing. Examples will include the use made of the show by the European Leonardo LIPS project, Linguistic and Intercultural Preparation for Students.
The workshop is designed to give teachers a non-threatening step by step guide as to how to involve target language podcasts in their teaching. The approach will centre on pedagogical rather than technical issues.
